Education Committee:  Steve Elder and Tom Edwards reported that Rex Cauldwell was committed to teach on Electrical and Plumbing at the fall conference in Wrightsville Beach.  Glenn Church has graciously agreed to teach the NCHILB mandatory course at the conference.  It was also noted that getting the NCHILB to approve courses for CEU credits was very long and involved.  NC-ASHI would like to attempt to have 2 conferences per year.  Steve Elder told the meeting attendees that this would be his last conference as education committee chairman.  Nicole has agreed to get courses for future conferences pushed through NCHILB for CEU approval.

It was suggested that a possible speaker for a conference could be Ray McGee – code issues.

Report Action Committee:   There has been no meeting since last NC-ASHI meeting.

President Report:  Tom Edwards reports that DVD rentals of NC-ASHI tapes have increased.  Nicole has  taken in approximately $1200.00 in last year from rentals.  Currently there are 53 members in NC-ASHI.  Tom also reported that the position paper from NC-ASHI regarding recommendations on pre-licensing requirements and the deletion of “GC and Engineering loopholes” was currently in progress.

NCHILB Report:   David Jones reported that the NCHILB is forming a pre-licensing education committee next month.  They will be looking at the New York model of pre-licensing education of 140 hours to include 40 hours in the field and 100 hours in the classroom ( to be offered in a college type setting).  The home inspector associate designation would disappear.

David also reported that the new appointee to the NCHILB was William T. Jones a home inspector from New Bern.  Jim Liles has been designated vice-chairman with Gerald Canipe as chairman.

October 19th is the next scheduled meeting for the NCHILB education committee.

The NCHILB investigator is now doing random audits of home inspector reports

(4 a month).  They will be writing the most common errors on reports in the NCHILB bulletin.
